Ala Verde Ala Pobre is the story of Manuel and Jessica, a young couple surviving against the odds in the Riles, a hustling community that grows along the railroad tracks leading to and from the inner core of Manila. Manuel, a former communist rebel now works as janitor for a recruitment agency GLOW that trains and deploys OFWs, more specifically to Japan to work as entertainers or Japayukis. His wife was a Japayuki but now finds better financial opportunity dealing in drugs for an unseen drug source she calls Kirat. The manager of GLOW is Monica who made the firm into a thriving business using her allure over the firms boss called Boss Dik whose wife Mrs. Ledesma, calls the shots while living in luxury off the profits made by the firm. Boss Dik exploits young female applicants at Glow with his video camera hobby.
